Nothing that China says or does in relation to Tibet and the Dalai Lama excuses it's human rights violations or record. China does not permit any form of protest. Protest is what happens when you don't permit discussion. Discussion is what is required when the people (regardless of number) are unhappy about the situation under which they live. Everyones opinion should count. It may not be a benefit to anyone for Tibet to go back to Serf style rule but it is not a benefit to anyone for the Chinese authorities to brutally terrorise and criminalise anyone who wishes to hold a view even slightly different to the authorised one. If Tibet is truly to become an economically developed nation then it's own people must be allowed to develop themselves. They cannot do this under oppression. While the article is very interesting and I accept many of the points it raises.
